XM and Sirius Satellite Radio Buying Guide
Satellite Radio is attracting lots of listeners who want a break from the normal music playlist and endless ads on local FM and AM stations and don't mind paying a few dollars a month for it. Up untill a few years ago satellite radio was mainly for cars and trucks. Sirius and XM, the two satellite radio services, have since added programming and expanded "at home" listening options.

If your taste goes far beyond "Top 40" to big band standards, world music, Broadway show tunes, Rock and more then Satellite Radio is for you. If you do plenty of highway driving and want the same channel coast to coast then Satellite Radio is for you. Don't like ads? The music channels on Sirius and XM are mostly commercial free. However some channels like FOX and CNN do run ads.
Sirius and XM are costly matched in monthly cost and programming. Both offer discounts for monthly plans. Once you have settled on a service for your home you are committed. To switch you have buy new hardware. More GM cars have XM receivers built in and usually offer one year free service to get you hooked.
It's easier to get satellite radio reception in cars and trucks than in your home. During long drive you can always count on strong reception from both services. Getting good reception at home depends on positioning of the radio's antenna. The best reception may not be in the room you want the radio.
